Everyone’s typing or talking or, presumably, making something. Dumbo's Circus is a live-action/puppet television series for preschool audiences that aired on The Disney Channel in the 1980s. Each character would perform a special act, which ranged from dancing and singing to telling knock knock jokes. Frank Churchill and Oliver Wallace scored the film while Ned Washington wrote the lyrics to the songs. For their work on the score, Churchill and Wallace won the Academy Award for Best Original Score.

A belated stork catches up with the moving train and drops off the expected baby elephant, Jumbo Junior. The other elephants are initially delighted, until they see the baby has far-oversized ears, and promptly nickname him "Dumbo". Mrs. Jumbo shows her baby great care and love, defending him from teasing by other elephants.

Produced to recoup the financial losses of both Pinocchio and Fantasia, Dumbo was a deliberate pursuit of simplicity and economy for the Disney studios. At 64 minutes, it is one of the studio's shortest animated features. One voice was synthesized using the Sonovox system, but it too was recorded using the RCA System. The main character is Jumbo Jr., an elephant who is cruelly nicknamed "Dumbo", as in "dumb".
While some of the furniture is vintage, most of it is bespoke, including outdoor furniture. Accents — such as towels, menu coloring, and tiles on the outdoor bar — are a lime green, which speaks to the building’s history as a facility for imported raw coffee beans in the late 1800s. And this is where those who are suckers for a good view—or suckers for a good view and roof-deck pools—will be. The calendar is filled with member events with the overarching idea to learn something and, possibly, meet someone. Art talks are held in the library and yoga sessions up on the roof. That’s right, the network of members’ clubs known as Soho House has opened up a new outpost in the heart of Dumbo. The entrance is a discreet elevator with a bronze door in the lobby of Empire Stores.
What Are the Commute Times from DUMBO?
Eventually, the factories closed and by the 1970s the district had become a hub for artists, who used the large spaces for studios. It was this creative crowd that coined the name “DUMBO.” However, the moniker wasn’t popularized until the late 1990s. It was during that period that developer David Walentas purchased many buildings in the area. He renovated some into offices, and others into glitzy condominiums. Additionally, a host of tech companies such as Etsy and smaller incubators are headquartered there. Prospective members can apply anytime through the online application, answering two questions about your work history and what you hope to bring to the community.
These are the California cities where $150,000 still buys you a home. Could you live here?
DUMBO House’s interiors were decorated to echo the artist studios that have been in the area since the 1960s and 1970s. If you do get inside, remember, there’s no Instagramming your beautiful drink, no calling your friends to tell them who you saw in a cabana. Instead you can–or at least should–talk to your fellow creative humans. But the space itself sets it apart from the WeWorks of the world. The same kind of people you might find hunched over laptops in a coffee shop are instead hunched over laptops next to striking purple glassware, soaking up the sun from floor-to-ceiling windows.

In the game, the Disney Villains alter the happy endings from Jiminy Cricket's book; in particular, the Ringmaster forces Dumbo to endlessly perform humiliating stunts in his circus. In the end, the Ringmaster is defeated when he is knocked unconscious by a well-aimed custard pie. During the clowns' fire act, Dumbo jumps off the platform and prepares to fly. He drops the feather, but Timothy assures him it was only a psychological aid.
It whisks passengers across the East River to the Financial District at Wall Street in just four minutes, or uptown to the 34th Street ferry landing in around 35 minutes (with stops in Williamsburg along the way). The entire neighborhood was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000, and many of the buildings are former factories. Some of them once churned out household name products, like Benjamin Moore paints and Brillo pads. The interiors channel DUMBO's 1960s and 1970s heyday with manyelements of that retro decor style - think thick pile rugs, wicker furnishings andour House favourite Garret armchair in boucle upholstery. This art installation is a nod to the BBC’s children’s show, Playhouse (1964–1988).
The “Manhattan Bridge Blue” walls are the exact color of the Manhattan Bridge (which is seen through the windows). On the walls, there are works from artists David Adjaye, Zoe Buckman, and Steven Siegel. The official launch was earlier this month, but Dumbo House kicked off a bit earlier with a group of founding members meant to spread the word. With 20 clubs around the world, and eight in North America, including two in Manhattan in the Meatpacking District and the Lower East Side, the move to Brooklyn wasn’t entirely unexpected.
The Soho House team drops in a year in advance to survey a city’s creative community and build a network of people who might be interested in joining. The route for the Brooklyn Half Marathon will start in North Brooklyn and go under the Williamsburg, Manhattan, and Brooklyn bridges, including passing through Dumbo and downtown Brooklyn. The race will then head down Flatbush Avenue, down Eastern Parkway, and conclude in Prospect Park. Critics at the time weren’t always impressed with Walt Disney’s bid to turn animation into a fine art. Rushed into production largely because the studio needed an influx of cash, “Dumbo” is credited as a key player in saving Disney’s fortunes. But if all had gone according to the studio’s initial plan, 1942’s “Bambi” would likely have preceded “Dumbo” to the big screen. However, that film’s animals, equally realistic and fantastical, as well as its harrowing forest fire scene, were, to say the least, a challenge to both conceptualize and animate.

Dumbo and Timothy are later discovered asleep high up in a tree by Dandy Crow and his gang. Initially making fun of Timothy's assertion that Dumbo flew with his ears while drunk, the crows are soon moved by Dumbo's sad story. They decide to help Timothy, giving him a "magic feather" to help Dumbo fly. Holding the feather, Dumbo does indeed take off a second time. He and Timothy return to the circus with plans to surprise the audience.
“It’s a small neighborhood,” says Schwartzberg, who lives in nearby Brooklyn Heights. There’s really almost no co-op inventory in DUMBO, which drives condo prices up even more.” And not everything is in a converted factory. Schwartzberg cites a clutch of new, “snazzy” developments, including the rentals at 60 Water Street and the condos of One John Street. The 33-story, curving high-rise will be the tallest building in DUMBO, with 76 condos. “It’s such a great area — you can see why so many people have moved here,” says Soho House founder and chief executive officer Nick Jones, glancing out of one of the soaring windows inside DUMBO House. The venue would open its doors to the CFDA the next evening, kicking off the membership club’s latest addition to the network — its first Brooklyn house.

SmartDraw makes it easy to spec out a project for a client or create inspiration for your team. You can share your design via email or collaborate in Teams, Slack, or Confluence. You can also work on the same file via shared folders in SmartDraw or your preferred file sharing app. The only real downfall inside of the program itself is that to make this easy to use, they’ve taken out complex features. This means that the visualization you come up with isn’t hyper-realistic. When it comes to structures there are many options such as benches, containers, gazebos and shed designs.

You have a handful of them, helping you design everything from ponds to decking. For example, if you want to upload a photo of a landscape as the base of your design, you need to pay for a software like iScape as this feature isn’t available on free programs. You’re also going to need to pay for a CAD software if you want to actually create 3D models of your design elements from scratch, rather than using pre-built ones. Whereas most landscape design software are built to run on PCs or iPad, iScape is unique in being specifically built for iPhones and Android smartphones.

This riverfront corner of Brooklyn was home to a ferry landing and a collection of manufacturing warehouses and factories. In one of those factories in 1890, a Scottish immigrant named Robert Gair invented the pre-cut cardboard box. As a result, the neighborhood was known as “Gairville” for years. DUMBO, short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, is a historic waterfront neighborhood in Brooklyn that has been transformed into a chic and vibrant community. It is known for its stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, cobblestone streets, and trendy boutiques and restaurants.

The crows wave goodbye to the elephants as they travel away. In the years following its initial release, Dumbo remains popular ever since. Its derivative works include a popular theme park attraction, merchandise products, a television series, and a live-action adaptation. It can — and has — been argued that its financial limitations led to some inventive animation, namely in the trippy pink-elephant sequence, which inspired a whole breadth of ’60s-era psychedelics.

When I was there on a recent morning, it felt more like a co-working space–laptops and coffee cups everywhere. More than 20,000 runners are set to hit the streets of Brooklyn on Sunday, April 28 for the NYCRUNS Brooklyn Half Marathon. Dumbo had its television premiere on September 14, 1955,[25] albeit severely edited, as an installment of the Disneyland television show. The film was shown unaltered on September 17, 1978, as part of a two-night salute to the program's 25th anniversary. By car, the ride from DUMBO across either bridge and up to Midtown can take as little as 15 minutes, although with traffic that can balloon to 45 minutes. For a more scenic commute, the NYC Ferry is one of the neighborhood’s best assets.
Live-action adaptation
He is ridiculed for his oversized ears, but in fact he is capable of flying by using his ears as wings. Throughout most of the film, his only true friend, aside from his mother, is a mouse named Timothy – a relationship parodying the stereotypical animosity between mice and elephants. For most of New York City’s history, DUMBO was considered part of nearby Vinegar Hill.
Often, humans are seen simply as shadows in a tent, which while deviating from the precision of earlier Disney movies, heightens “Dumbo’s” themes of isolation and careless bullying. It was not 1940’s “Pinocchio,” regarded today as a groundbreaking work in effects animation and arguably still one of Disney’s more intrinsically detailed, emotionally expansive films. Inside a former tobacco warehouse, this waterfront theater hosts concerts and award-winning theater productions. With so much packed into just 35 acres, DUMBO punches above its weight. “It truly is the It-neighborhood of greater New York,” say Eklund and Novo.
Churchill and Washington's work on "Baby Mine" also garnered a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Timothy decides to take Dumbo to see Mrs. Jumbo, but they cannot see each other's faces and can only intertwine trunks. Meanwhile, the clowns decide to increase the popularity of their fireman act by dangerously raising the platform Dumbo jumps from. In celebration of the plan, they drink champagne, and a bottle of it falls into a water vat. Crying after visiting his mother, Dumbo has the hiccups, so Timothy takes him to the vat for some water.
As for taking in the views, the intersection of Water and Washington streets is where to go for the most Instagrammable photo opp. Photographers (professional and amateur) flock here for an iconic look at the sky-blue Manhattan Bridge set between the red brick warehouse buildings. Getting from DUMBO into Manhattan is a cinch, with easy road, subway, and ferry access. It takes around 15 minutes to get to 42nd Street from the neighborhood’s two closest subway stations, York Street (just east of the Manhattan Bridge) and High Street (just south of the Brooklyn Bridge).
Culturally, Disney’s current films were perceived by the critical elite as lacking the warmth and whimsy of its “Silly Symphony” and Mickey Mouse shorts. “Cold” is a word that appears in many descriptions of “Pinocchio” and “Fantasia,” films that are probably more adored today and are perceived as concluding Disney’s first major golden age. Schwartzberg also notes the shopping and dining options in the area. Here, outposts of legendary New York food institutions like Ess-A-Bagel and Jacob’s Pickles bring the flavors of the city all under one roof (and to a river-facing outdoor terrace). You look at Manhattan — which is so beautiful to look at — and those two bridges are two of the most well-known bridges in the world,” Jones says.
After scaring off the other elephants, Timothy, a mouse that travels with the circus, befriends Dumbo and decides to make him a star. He whispers in the ringmaster's ear while the latter sleeps, convincing him to try a new stunt with Dumbo as the top of a pyramid of elephants. Dumbo trips on his ears during the show and knocks over the pyramid, injuring the other elephants and causing the big top to crash down. He is put in with the clowns' firemen act, regularly jumping from a "burning building" prop into a vat of pie filling. Despite his newfound popularity, he hates the job and becomes depressed. If Disney were to survive — at least as Walt had envisioned it — it needed a hit, one that would be relatively cheap and quick to produce.
Dumbo House assimilates nicely into the Brooklyn ecosystem. Everything in the room was carefully curated and designed especially for this location; the menus feature illustrations by a local Dumbo artist. The interior is painted the exact shade of blue of the Manhattan Bridge just off in the distance. And the art collection–every house has one–is curated under an architecture theme, with some of the abstract drawings created by local Brooklyn artists. In Florida, while a large circus spends the off-season in its winter grounds, a flock of white storks delivers many babies to the animals. One elephant, Mrs. Jumbo, does not receive her baby, and keeps scanning the sky.
The fear of being tackled by secret service officers or worse usually keeps people from breaching the roughly 13-foot fence that surrounds the White House. While taller, the new fence has an additional inch of space between its pickets, for a total of 5½ inches between posts. It may be the first successful intrusion onto the complex since the White House fence was doubled in height to roughly 13 feet in recent years after a series of security breaches. Reporting the breach, NPR said “older children have sometimes become stuck in the iconic barrier, which has also been the scene of demonstrations, with protesters chaining themselves to the fence”. The Secret Service chief of communications, Anthony Guglielmi, said the “curious young visitor” gained entry “along the … north fence line [and] briefly entered White House grounds. In recent years, security concerns have caused the Secret Service to double the height of the fence around the White House, with AP noting the barrier now stands 13 feet tall. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said officers "encountered a curious young visitor along the White House north fence line who briefly entered White House grounds." Accordingly to the outlet, the toddler may be the first to successfully trespass onto the complex grounds since the White House fence was doubled to roughly 13 feet in height and 5.5 inches of space were added between each picket. Officers briefly questioned the parents before allowing the family to continue on their way. The Secret Service Uniformed Division encountered "a curious young visitor" along the north fence line of the White House after he briefly entered the grounds, agency spokesman Anthony Gugliemli said in a statement.
In 2019, the Secret Service began construction on a 13-foot, 1-inch high fence, more than double the size of the previous 6-foot fence. The higher fence, which has wider and stronger pickets, was meant to keep intruders out, especially after a few high-profile incidents of intruders and fence-jumpers getting onto White House grounds. Secret Service officers before the child and the parents were reunited, the Secret Service said.

While the construction of the northern, southern and eastern sections of the White House fence have been completed, construction on the west section of the fence is expected to be finished this year. Notably, this comes after the Secret Service and National Park Service have worked since 2019 to double the height of the fence to around 13 feet after previous security breaches. Toddler Squeezes Through White House Fence Prompting Secret Service Response
The intruder, Jonathan Tran, was found to be carrying two cans of Mace, a passport, a computer and a book by the then president, Donald Trump. Installation of the fence began in 2019, after a number of intruders made it on to White House grounds. That same year, a man with a knife jumped the fence and made it all the way into the East Room of the White House before being stopped.

The White House grounds are safe after a toddler breached the fence
Uniformed officers, responsible for security at the White House, walked across the North Lawn to retrieve the tot, officials said. Older children have at times become stuck in the barrier, which has also been the scene of demonstrations, with protesters chaining themselves to the fence. However, this taller fence also has an additional inch of space between its pickets, which may have allowed the toddler the room to squeeze through.

The event prompted the Secret Service to launch an investigation into security practices at the presidential home. The area in front of the north fence, which is near Lafayette Square, is a popular destination for tourists. WASHINGTON — Security systems at the White House instantly triggered the deployment of Secret Service officers Tuesday after a breach — by a toddler.
The child is thought to be about 3 years old, secret service agents told a USA TODAY White House correspondent on scene. Access to the public area of the complex was briefly restricted as the officers worked to return the toddler to his parents on Pennsylvania Avenue. The toddler slipped through the fence on Tuesday morning, prompting officers from the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division to walk across the executive mansion’s North Lawn to intercept the youngster. The toddler is believed to be the first successful intruder across the White House fence, which was installed in 2022. In 2014, for example, a 43-year-old man scaled one of the fences, armed with a folding knife, and made it all the way into the White House's East Room. The unidentified tot may have been the first person to get through the White House’s new 13-foot tall fences, which were installed in recent years after several breaches.
Most of what typically causes mold is simply part of everyday life. You turn on the shower, and condensation starts to form behind the windowpane. You run the washing machine and moisture builds around the rubber seal that otherwise keeps your laundry area dry.
What are the effects of mold in your home?
Some overlooked spots that are prone to mold growth in these spaces are the grout between tiles and the caulk that seals areas around bathtubs and sinks. Over time, if these areas remain persistently damp or are not adequately cleaned, they can become breeding grounds for mold. The first indication of mold might be dark or discolored specks and patches forming on what was once white or light-colored grout. Similarly, caulk’s flexibility means moisture can be trapped behind it, allowing mold to grow both on its surface and underneath. Moreover, health effects may vary depending on the type of mold that is present. Toxigenic varieties like black mold produce mycotoxins, which can have more serious health implications when inhaled over a prolonged period.

Why is mold growing in my home?
Since the effect of mold on people can vary greatly, either because of the amount or type of mold, you cannot rely on sampling and culturing to know your health risk. Mildew can discolor and slowly harm surfaces but there are much more dangerous molds that can damage the structure of your home. Mildew is a surface mold that grows in warm, damp places like your bathroom, on fabrics, and books stored in damp basements. Mold can damage household items and it may also cause health issues. Most people may only experience an allergic reaction or allergy-like symptoms following mold exposure. More rarely, mold can cause more serious health issues in some people with certain risk factors.
When you’re contending with more than a few mold spots, it could be a sign of a bigger moisture problem. Call a contractor who specializes in water damage restoration or waterproofing to assess and address the issue. Mildew is typically more visible during early stages and pops up as white or gray powdery dots. It may turn yellow or brown, but generally remains pretty flat. Mold appears darker, often in shades of red, green or black and can have a fuzzy texture. While mildew is typically less dangerous than certain types of mold (think black mold), both microscopic fungi can cause health problems and damage to your home.
The county will bring in the bulldozers to raze the 4-bedroom house and lift out the pool filled with a greenish goo of algae and rainwater. The tests measure levels of IgE antibodies, which your immune system releases in response to an allergen. Outdoor sites include places where leaves and other vegetation are decomposing.
It grows and spreads on materials that contain a lot of cellulose, including paper products, wood products and drywall. The structural integrity of wood can also be compromised if mold has been left untreated for an extended period. At the unwelcome discovery of mold, a flood of concerns may arise, and for good reason. Continuous mold exposure can have serious health repercussions, especially if the growth is concentrated in bedrooms or living areas where residents spend much of their time. If possible, it’s a good idea to open a window to allow fresh air circulation and enhance the room’s air quality. For those with pre-existing respiratory conditions, the situation can be more serious.
How quickly black mold affects you depends on whether you have any allergies or sensitivities to it. Your body is unique, and how you react to black mold may differ from how others respond to it. For most people, black mold won’t make you very sick or kill you.
The above does not describe all potential health effects related to mold exposure. For more detailed information consult a health professional, your state or local health department, or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention mold website. Standards for judging what is an acceptable, tolerable or normal quantity of mold have not been established. Sampling for mold can be expensive, and standards for judging what is and what is not an acceptable quantity of mold have not been set. They should tell you in advance what they will do or what recommendations they will make based on the sampling results.
Sampling for mold should be conducted by professionals who have specific experience in designing mold sampling protocols, sampling methods, and interpreting results. The risks of mold exposure include a variety of health complications, which can vary by individual. Reactions can occur immediately or as delayed symptoms that worsen over time. Symptoms that worsen in a damp, humid, or moldy environment can indicate a mold allergy. See a healthcare provider if you have black mold allergy symptoms, especially if they affect your day-to-day quality of life. Molds also produce microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs), which create an unpleasant “moldy” or musty smell.
People with weakened immune systems are also at a higher risk of fungal infections in general, which can include lung infections due to molds. If you notice signs of mold, it may be tempting to ignore what’s in front of you — what's a little mold to get in-between you and a possible offer? Evidence of mold, however, may be an indication of wider problems with dampness in the house. Then, in the case of extreme weather events, the risk may come from outside your home. Even after the flood water has gone or the storm damage is patched up, any moisture left behind — possibly lurking in cracks and crevices — may eventually cause mold in your home.

In high-moisture environments, these patches have a slimy texture due to the active growth and feeding of mold colonies. In drier conditions, the same mold might present a fuzzy or powdery appearance, as often appears on the surface of old bread. These visual and tactile properties result from the dense growth of mold hyphae (the branching filaments that make up the main body of the fungus) on the surface. Wipe hard surfaces with a suitable commercial product, soap and water, or a heavily diluted bleach solution. Always dry the surfaces after use to prevent mold from reappearing. While there isn’t a device that actively “detects” mold like a smoke detector detects smoke, one of the best mold testing kits is an option. These kits can be used to collect samples from around the home, which are then sent to a lab for analysis. If pets ingest mold, they may also exhibit gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting. It’s worth noting that because of their smaller sizes, animals may be affected by smaller amounts of mold than their human owners.
If your home has been flooded and mold and bacteria have been left to grow for many days, it may be impossible to salvage fabric items and clothing. However, if mildew has developed due to dampness and is caught early, it can easily be removed from most machine-washable fabrics. Chlorine bleach, or household bleach (sodium hypochlorite), works best to destroy mold and remove any discoloration. Chlorine bleach is quite harsh, and dilution is an important step before use. Keep in mind that while bleach removes mold discoloration, it also removes color from most fabrics.

When it comes to creating a beautiful interior for your bakery, one of the key considerations is choosing colors and themes. The right color palette can have a huge impact on the atmosphere in your shop, so it’s important to choose carefully. Colors can evoke calm, excitement, and even mystery – it all depends on what you want your customers to experience when they enter your bakery. When designing interior space for a busy bakery, it’s important to consider how the design will impact both customers and employees.

Perhaps due to his London-bred sensibilities, L.A.-based Paul Fortune creates subtle and timeless interiors that elude the certainty of a single era or style. Having designed residential spaces for the likes of fashion designer Marc Jacobs, screenwriter Sofia Coppola, and Fun! Frontman Nate Ruess, Fortune has made a name for himself over the past 30 years as the master of impeccably considered interiors. In 2006, he also helped rework the designs of the Sunset Tower Hotel to restore it as an iconic destination. Though now based in Ojai and working as more of a design advisor, he maintains his involvement in select projects.
Have multiple display stands where your delicious creations can be showcased. Put these displays in prominent areas, near doorways, windows, or on countertops that can be seen from all around the premises. Consider adding attractive props such as decorated plates, platters, and extra décor to give the display more impact. For instance, in creating seating areas, you'll need surface space for tables, seating space, and a minimum of 25” behind each chair to allow people to stand and sit comfortably.
Customers are given a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere by the design’s minimalism, which also gives the area a modern and clean appeal. Visitors can completely appreciate the beauty and artistry of the bakery’s offerings thanks to the space’s seamless and clutter-free interior design. Strategically placed furniture, such as communal tables or comfortable seating areas, can entice consumers to linger and savor their goodies. For instance, you may want your bakery to create a more creative kind of baked good in funny shapes with novel recipes. You'll want to create an environment that reflects the personality you express in the baking of your bread, pastries, and cakes, with similarly fun logos and packaging using bold shape and color that showcases your personality. While darker colors, browns, and blues, for example, feel traditional and cozy, luxurious seating will combine well.
